The Expert Behind the Tent

When Jessie set out to replace the El Capitan, she didn't just want a great tent — she wanted the right person in her corner.

That's where Jim Stevens came in.

Jim spent over a decade as the Sales Manager at Eureka Canada, and has been designing tents and camp gear for well over two decades. He's the mind behind some of Eureka's most iconic products — including the legendary El Capitan itself, the Midori tent, and Eureka's best-selling bug shelter. If you've ever slept well on a canoe trip or a backcountry expedition in a Eureka tent, there's a good chance Jim had something to do with it.

When Eureka Canada ceased production in 2024, Jim's deep knowledge of what makes a tent truly great didn't disappear with the brand. Skyview brought the former Eureka Canada Sales Manager on as a core collaborator for the ECO project — contributing his expertise in materials, construction, and real-world performance to help shape every detail of these tents from the ground up.

The result isn't just a replacement for the El Capitan. It's a refinement of it.

Why Did We Design Our Own Tent?

Designing our own camping tent was not something Jessie ever planned on doing. At Skyview Outdoors, we proudly sold the Eureka El Capitan for decades — until 2024, when Eureka ceased production of all their tents.

After spending 2024 and 2025 meeting and testing dozens of new brands, our team couldn't find anything that hit the mark. Some tents had the right features but were far pricier than the old El Cap. Others were good value but lacked the durability and weatherproofing that made the El Capitan so trusted.

So we took matters into our own hands.

With Jim Stevens' expertise and decades of our own hands-on experience with the El Capitan, Jessie and the Skyview team spent all of 2025 designing, trialing, sampling, and perfecting a tent that captures everything that made the El Cap legendary —

and leveled it up even further:
